Chrome extension privacy policy
Last updated:
This policy supplements ColorWillow’s website privacy notice. It applies when you use the Chrome extension to choose an image, convert it, save a result or use AI. Website accounts, payments and other website services remain covered by the main notice.
Read the website privacy notice
Images you choose
You can select a computer file, right-click or pick a webpage image, or drag one image into the sidebar. We temporarily handle that image, its format and dimensions, the current-page and image addresses, and tab/frame references needed to identify your selection. We do not scan galleries, read unrelated images, assemble a browsing-history list or send source webpage addresses to ColorWillow for conversion. The source image server may receive ordinary connection information, including your IP address and the requested image address. Image requests omit website cookies and the referring-page header.
Free conversion and saving
Free conversion processes the selected image on your device without uploading the original or temporary result to ColorWillow or an AI service. Download saves the PNG through your browser. If you sign in and explicitly choose Save to My Library, only the result and necessary save settings are uploaded to your private account. Selecting an image or signing in does not automatically save it.
Visible-image fallback
When direct reading fails, you may explicitly request the visible-image fallback and confirm a region. Chrome temporarily captures the visible viewport; the extension crops the confirmed region locally and discards the full capture. Only the crop becomes your selected image. It is uploaded only if you later choose AI, or if you save a Free result derived from it. There is no automatic screenshot capture or whole-page upload.
Signing in and revoking access
Sign-in opens ColorWillow’s account authorization page. The extension receives a limited authorization, an internal account ID, expiry and policy information, an optional avatar, and the task/credit information needed for your chosen feature. It does not read your Google password, export website cookies or request Google Drive or Photos access. Authorization lasts at most one hour and ends earlier when the underlying session ends or access is revoked. It is kept in restricted Chrome session storage, not synced storage. Extension sign-out revokes extension access while keeping the website session separate. Website session sign-out, device revocation and account closure prevent further access.
AI conversion and service providers
After you confirm image-use permission and choose Generate, the selected original and processing copy are uploaded and stored privately. Options, task status and credit records support processing, recovery and settlement. A processing copy and conversion instructions go to third-party AI processing services, and completed results are retrieved and saved to the same account. Originals can contain embedded metadata; processing copies are normalized and have metadata removed. ColorWillow does not automatically publish your photos or results or use them to train AI models. External processors’ copies follow their own handling and retention practices. Cloudflare provides hosting, account data and private storage; Google handles website sign-in. Account requests to ColorWillow use HTTPS. The extension displays credit quantities, not card numbers, security codes or bank credentials.
Temporary data and local storage
Replacing or clearing an image, or closing the panel, releases its working buffers and object URLs. A pending right-click reference expires after 60 seconds; a page drag nomination after 30 seconds; an in-document image reference can last up to five minutes and is cleared on replacement or document exit. Language preferences remain until changed or local extension data is removed. Up to four accounts may each have one recent task reference, valid for seven days; expired references are removed when read and older accounts may be evicted. These references contain account/task IDs, choices and time, but no image bytes, access tokens or webpage addresses. Server authorization records store hashes and necessary metadata; expired records are cleaned in bounded batches during later authorization activity. Expiry stops access even before cleanup.
Private files and deletion
Saved originals and results remain private until removed or the account is deleted, subject to the website’s storage and cleanup rules. Clearing a selection, signing out or uninstalling the extension does not delete a saved file or cancel an already submitted task. Original deletion may wait for active tasks and does not automatically delete independent generated results. Necessary transaction and credit records can remain after account closure; recovery copies may retain deleted data for up to 30 days. Device downloads and external processors’ copies are outside the extension’s deletion controls. Use your ColorWillow account to manage saved files and devices.
Website access and your controls
HTTP/HTTPS website access lets you choose a visible image and read it from the page or a different image host. Context-menu, sidebar, scripting, active-tab, identity and storage permissions support selection, confirmed region capture, authorization and recovery. Page listeners react to your selection actions and do not collect page contents on load. You can restrict site access in Chrome, clear a selection, sign out, remove saved assets or uninstall the extension. Hosting and image servers may keep ordinary operational logs to deliver and secure requests.
Website links and analytics
The extension contains no advertising, third-party analytics tracker or session-recording script. Opening website links can involve the website’s separately disclosed cookies and analytics. Website Google sign-in, payments, support messages and account retention are described in the main privacy notice. The extension’s Limited Use statement below applies to information received through the extension.
Questions and policy changes
ColorWillow accounts are for adults, including parents and teachers; the extension creates no child accounts or profiles. Use images you own or have permission to process, including necessary permission for people pictured. For privacy questions or requests, contact support@colorwillow.com with only the information needed; do not send passwords or sign-in codes. We use that information to handle your request. Changes will be reflected in the published policy, with additional consent where required.
Limited use of extension data
ColorWillow’s use and transfer of information received through the extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We use it only to provide, maintain and secure the disclosed image-conversion and account features. We do not sell it or use it for personalized advertising, unrelated profiling, creditworthiness or lending. Transfers are limited to providing these features, security, legal requirements or a permitted business transfer. Human access is limited to permitted cases, including your specific support consent, security investigation or legal obligations.
