Find the right starting point

A simple shape, a silly face, or a whole scene?

Compare simple outlines

Rounded paw shapes, triangle eyes and a single leaf offer different kinds of tracing. Compare corners and connecting spaces, not just the number of openings.

Choose an expression

A sleepy yawn, two big teeth or a curled moustache each create a different character. Read the notes for the face you choose before transferring it.

From paper to porch

How to print and transfer your pumpkin stencil.

Regular printer paper works. No sticker paper needed.

  1. 01

    Print it to fit

Measure a smooth area on your pumpkin. Set the pattern width, then print at 100% or Actual size. Check the 50 mm line on the page.

  2. 02

    Tape & transfer

Tape the paper in place, making small folds around the edges. Poke closely spaced dots along the dark shapes, or trace with transfer paper underneath.

  3. 03

    Follow the shapes

Remove the paper. An adult can carve out the marked dark areas on a hollowed pumpkin, keeping the light areas and connecting bridges in place.

  4. 04

    Give it a glow

Pop an LED light inside and find your pumpkin a spot. Prefer a painted pumpkin? Trace the same shapes and fill them with paint instead.

Before you carve

A few helpful things.

Can I use a coloring page as a pumpkin stencil?

You can trace a coloring page for painting. Carving needs a different design: every area you keep must stay connected to the pumpkin shell. These patterns use dark cut-out shapes, with a clear light area to keep.

Which pumpkin pattern should I start with?

Start with a classic face or a paw print for simple outlines. A cat and moon or a friendly ghost has more detail. Choose a smooth pumpkin with room for the whole design.

What is the difference between PDF, PNG and SVG?

PDF includes your paper size, chosen pattern width and a calibration line. PNG is a high-resolution image for other projects. SVG keeps the shapes sharp when resized. For a measured paper template, choose PDF or Print.

Will my carved pumpkin look exactly like the preview?

The preview is an illustration. Pumpkin shape, shell thickness and your light change the result. Check your actual-size print before carving; the preview cannot judge the strength of the pumpkin shell.

Pumpkin previews are illustrations. Check the printed pattern against your pumpkin before carving.
