Start with the forward-facing axolotl or the one with a large head and small body for open coloring areas. Reed roots, water-lily stems and the canal scene offer more background details to color. Use the front-facing and side-facing pictures to compare the visible head, feathery gills and tail outlines.
Compare the straight, gently curved and U-shaped tails. Follow the feathery gill outlines, then choose your own colors for the animals, plants and stones. Place two whole pages beside each other and point to a feature visible in both. For a separate animal-grouping activity, use the reptiles and amphibians guide; these illustrated scenes are not scientific identification diagrams.
