Comic Sequencing and Retelling

By ColorWillow

Cut and arrange three wordless four-panel stories: a paper airplane, a growing flower and a block bridge. Follow a character and explain what changes from one picture to the next.

Print the project sheets

Choose the paper size loaded in your printer. Print at actual size (100%) so the pieces match the measurements in this guide.

Building a Block Bridge

Try it step by step

Four paper-airplane comic cards in mixed order, each inside a dashed cutting rectangle.
Pieces before arranging; cut around the outside dashed borders.

What you will need

  • Matching A4 or Letter paper; crayons or colored pencils; ruler. For cutting, child-appropriate scissors and adult help. Glue is optional.

Choose one story

The six-page file contains instructions, three story-card sheets, a shared 1-4 board and a reference. Choose just one story: print page 2, 3 or 4, plus page 5.

Color and cut the cards

Color the same character consistently. With adult help, cut only the outside dashed rectangles. Keep each picture’s full black frame. Mix only one story’s four cards at a time.

Put the pictures in order

Place the cards in slots 1-4, left to right and then top to bottom. Point or say a sentence for each. The cards have no answer numbers; the last page shows the original order.

Try another way to tell it

Without scissors, point to the pictures in order. A flower grows over time, not immediately after watering. Try another order and explain a different story; this is play, not a test.
