Closed covers, open wings and leafy scenes

The collection moves from single fireflies resting on plants to two insects in the grass or on a shared leaf. The older open-wing picture seen from above and a new angled flight view show different compositions. Curled and layered leaves, a stump and an open grass frame add broad shapes to color; short rays are drawn light symbols.

Start with a broad leaf or smooth wing-cover areas when you want larger spaces. Choose the fern for repeated small leaflets, the stump for wide wood sections, or the curled leaf for its large bend. The angled views include natural overlap, so every leg and wing is not exposed in every picture. These are simplified insect illustrations, not species or anatomy charts.

Try it together

Choose a resting picture and an open-wing picture. Keep one wing-cover color across both, then use two greens to separate a plant’s leaf surface and veins. Add only the pages you want to your print list and adjust the list before printing or making a PDF. Compare visible shapes rather than counting parts hidden behind the body; the drawn tail rays can use any color you choose.
