Choose a large single insect for broad coloring areas, or try honeycomb, garden scenes and butterfly wing patterns for more detail. This selection focuses on familiar insects and does not include spiders or worms. Stylized drawings are for coloring, not anatomy reference. For a wing-outline comparison, try the dragonfly drawings beside a curved reed or above a long leaf. For a small pattern sampler, the monarch pictures offer wing-edge dots, caterpillar stripes and branching leaf lines. These are stylized illustrations to explore, rather than anatomical charts.
Keep the sheets whole and have crayons, colored pencils and scrap paper ready. In the dragonfly activity, compare two pictures, follow the four wing outlines and show one plant curve after repeating a wing color. In the monarch activity, one picture is enough: copy a short row of dots, bands or a branching line onto plain paper, try two colors and place the sampler beside the picture. Choose either task and finish only the parts you want; observe real insects from a distance with an adult.
