Make a Card from a Coloring Page

By ColorWillowPublished

Give a finished coloring picture a new home on the front of a card. Choose a small part of the drawing or use the whole picture on a larger folded sheet.

What you will need

  • A coloring page and crayons or colored pencils
  • A sheet of paper or card for the base
  • A glue stick
  • Child-appropriate scissors, with adult help

Personalize

Choose the picture and card size

Fold the blank sheet in half. Before coloring, place the printed picture beside the folded card and check that the part you want to use will fit. A single flower, animal or cake is a useful starting point.

Color the part you want to keep

Color your chosen subject and any surrounding details you like. Leave room around it for cutting. You do not need to color the rest of the page.

Cut and arrange

Ask an adult to help with cutting, especially around small details. A simple rectangle around the drawing works well; you do not have to cut exactly along the outline. Try the placement on the card before adding glue.

Glue and add a message

Glue the picture onto the front and let it dry. Write or dictate a short message inside, such as something you enjoyed doing with the person. Add the maker’s name if they want to.

An easy variation

Skip cutting and glue a whole colored sheet inside a larger folded card, or simply fold a blank sheet around it as a cover. For a classroom activity, let each child choose the recipient and message.
