Draw a Bow Along a Paper Fold

The short-tailed bow has a broad center knot, two loops and two short tails. The dotted bow has the same main parts with hollow circle patterns. Choose a reference, then use a crease on separate paper to arrange your own bow. The result is a new drawing; the fold helps with placement without requiring exact symmetry.

Try the activity

  1. Choose and print a reference

Open the activity selection window. Both pictures start checked; keep one or both and confirm your selection. In the print list, remove other pictures you do not need and check the order. Choose A4 or Letter for print or PDF. The selected pictures take one or two pages; an optional cover adds one more.

  2. Make a middle line

Find the knot, the two loops and the two tails in your reference. Fold a blank sheet once in half, reopen it and draw a knot across the crease. Add one broad loop and one hanging tail on the left. Keep the printed picture whole beside your paper.

  3. Draw the partner side

Draw another loop and tail on the right. Use the crease to compare their positions, then give each part enough space to color. The sides may differ in size or curve. Add dots if you like, placing your own circles rather than tracing a ready-made template.

  4. Color and show a difference

Use paired colors for the left and right parts, or deliberately change one side. Place your drawing beside the reference and point to one part that is alike and one that differs. You can explain by pointing or talking; an adult can write down your words.

Another idea

On another sheet, try longer tails or a different pattern. The fold is a drawing guide; this activity does not teach ribbon knot-tying or make a folded paper bow. No cutting is needed.
